Driving. Petrified Forest National Park is located along Highway 40, in between the cities of Holbrook and Chambers. I hiked the entire Petrified Forest Loop, which comes to approximately 10 miles and includes a section of the Maah Daah Hey trail. The actual petrified forest areas are other worldly and a must see. I encountered Pronghorns and Bison while hiking the Maah Daah Hey section. The trail has great views of the Badlands during the entire hike.
